The study of language is called linguistics. English linguistics has many branches/breeds like Pragmatics, Phonetics, Phonology, Syntax, Semantics, Morphology, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Applied Linguistics, etc. With the help of above all branches, we study language from many perspectives. Applied linguistics is prominent as it is related to humans. In Applied linguistics, we study how humans acquired a language and how people learn a language. So, it is humanistic. In Applied linguistics, we study different theories and models related to language learning and language acquisition.

In other branches of linguistics, we study the language as to how language was made, what are the meanings of different words, how does the voice produce, etc. But in Applied linguistics, we study language acquisition and language learning. The main difference is that Applied linguistics gives the solution to the problems in language learning and acquisition and the other branches deals with the problems while language listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Like, Phonetics & Phonology deal with the speaking system. Pragmatics and Semantics deal with the meaning of vocabulary words. Syntax deals with the sentence structure of the language and Morphology deal with the word structure of a language. All the branches of linguistics deal with the language but in a different ways. Applied linguistics is the most prominent as it helps the human in language learning and language acquisition.

APPLIED LINGUISTICS AS HUMANISTIC

Humans use language to communicate with each other. Human has many languages to communicate according to their living areas. We know language changes with a proper distance and where the language changes completely there is a need to learn a langue to communicate with those people who are not familiar with our mother tongue. For example, we Pakistani people cannot talk to an English person by using our mother tongue Punjabi / Urdu. We need to learn the English langue to interact with an English person. So, here is the need for applied linguistics. It works on the langue learning purely. It works on how can we learn second langue easily. It works for the human to learn a langue most easily as different theories are applied to second language learners to teach the second language. Direct Method, Grammar Translation, Audiolingual, Silently, Community language learning, Communicative approach, Physical response, etc. These all methods are given by Applied linguistics to learn a second language. Applied linguistics deals with the human psychology of language acquisition and language learning directly. We apply these methods to humans in different stages of second language learning. It helps humans to learn a language and to eradicate the errors committed during second language learning. A second language learner simply follows the rules of second language learning and achieves the target. Applied linguistics is the solution to all the problems committed by humans during learning a second language. They can be at any level of language learning.

APPLIED LINGUISTICS AS A SOLUTION TO PROBLEMS OF SLL/SLA

When a person learns a language, it is understood that he/she will commit mistakes. A language is a set of understandable sentences and the sentences are the set of arranged words. While language learning, humans commit mistakes of the wrong choice of words (choice), the wrong arrangement of words (chain), wrong pronunciation, and even hearing problems. Applied linguistics gives us the solution to these problems. Not even these problems. It helps humans, how to eradicate the errors permanently. Langue learning theories help humans to understand the second langue properly and help them to be proficient in language listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Here is a simple example of language learning with the help of the Grammar Translation Method. If there is an Urdu speaker then Applied linguistics tells us that he/she should be treated with GTM. The learner will be given the translation of different vocabulary words (verbs and nouns) of the second language then he/she will be given the formula of the targeted language then he/she will be able to make different sentences. When toddlers are learning a second language then there should be applied direct method according to Applied linguistics as it is the best way to teach a second language. They will be given audio/video recordings and asked to practice that. Even the teacher will talk to them in the targeted language. So, Applied linguistics is the solution to different problems faced by second language learners.

CONCLUSION

Applied Linguistics is the most humanistic of the branches of Linguistics. As it helps the human in language learning and gives the solutions to all the problems related to human language learning and acquisition. All the branches of linguistics are for the help of humans but Applied linguistics is prominent as it helps in language learning and acquisition. It directly helps humans for the solution of problems related to the use of language. It gives the solution to problems, mistakes, and errors committed by a human during language learning and acquisition.
